“There’s no time like the present!” Proverb

This week the Siberian winter continues in Switzerland!  All week the local paper and local organisations have been using photos of various the ice sculptures forming on anything that surrounds the lake – including totally encompassing some cars which had been left parked by the lake.  This afternoon, after spending a few hours working on the computer I decided I needed a break so I went to the lake with my camera.  As I got ready a little voice said “There’s probably ice all over the pavements and it’s very cold, why don’t you stay inside?”.  I listened to it for about a second and then continued to get ready.

When I reached the lake I realised how windy it really was – the waves were coming over the wall and the gulls were flying but not going anywhere!  But with my photographer hat on I was thinking this will be cool for photos!   I wasn’t the only mad one out there and everyone who was, was smiling and laughing as they slipped around, trying to stand straight against the wind.  The formations were incredible; icicles hanging off everywhere, litter bins overflowing with ice, slabs of ice floating between the boats, ice just everywhere. Then there were the sounds – it was like having a orchestra playing with all the fittings on the boats ringing, the waves roaring and the wind blowing.  10 minutes later I was back in the car cold and wet but amazed at what I’d seen and heard.  When I called my husband and told him I’d gone down to the lake he said to me “Well I wouldn’t have chosen today to go down there.”  But there’s no time like the present, another time the experience would have been totally different, or maybe I would have never made it at all!
